News

2024:

It’s taken me nearly 9 months to get round to doing a 2024 news page this year.  Why?  Three main reasons: 1) it’s always a toss-up between self-promotional work & just getting on with writing (& submitting for publication) & the latter has come first.  2) ever since I got ‘migrated’ to Wix I’ve not been able to keep up with the changes & find every bit of work on the website somewhat fraught & offputting.  3) I had an op in January to remove a small tumour from one of my kidneys, which put me back a bit.

Enough with the excuses, here I am, better late than… etc.  It’s more of a round-up of what I’ve done.  Much of this year has been devoted to completing a long story, not quite a novella, titled ‘Only the Light’, which I’m now about to start trying to find a publisher for, & resuming another long one, which will be a novella by the time I’ve finished it.

A lot of work also went into devising my performance for the Shaftesbury Fringe in July.  This went under the header: ‘Richard Foreman – Technophobe’ and resulted in 2 well-attended & well-received Fringe shows & a 3rd private show for people who weren’t able to get to, or get into, the Fringe shows.  See flyer & photos below.

Attempts to find publishers for my novel – ‘Flash Company’ – and a small poetry collection – ‘People’ – are ongoing.

And I, once again, ran the book-stall & did an open reading at the Tears in the Fence Poetry Festival.  This one was the magazine’s 40th anniversary & was quite an occasion.  Details at: https://tearsinthefence.com/2024-festival/ and see flyer below.  Then, below that, check out video, kindly posted by Andy Henon, of me reading. Also watch some very fine poets reading their work at:  https://andrewhenon.wordpress.com/tears-in-the-fence-festival-2024-videos/

Finally, I had a small slew of publication successes around the turn of the year.  A poem – ‘we are’ appeared in the online magazine titled, rather curiously, Spank The Carp and can be found online at: https://www.spankthecarp.com/past_pond_78.html and also in the magazine’s 2023 anthology available (from Amazon only unfortunately) at https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CSF1CMVT .  Another poem – ‘I Waited’ – appeared in the first issue of Cerasus Poetry Magazine last December, and is available at: https://cerasusmagazine.com/magazines/ .  One more – ‘Girl & Stick’ will appear shortly in the 3rd issue.  Two stories also appeared, ‘We Are On Spin’ in the December ’23 issue of satirical online magazine Defenestration - see: https://www.defenestrationmag.net/2023/12/defenestration-december-2023/ - and ‘Cleaning the Slate’ in Confluence issue 15 - https://www.confluencemagazine.co.uk/confluence-issue-15 .
